Avengers: Endgame is lagging down at the global box-office, Avengers’ fan can blame that for a front-loaded release of Pokemon Detective Pikachu. But it’s now within touching extent of commandeering James Cameron’s Avatar’s record for the highest grossing film.
Avengers: Endgame absolutely works as a blockbuster movie experience. The much-discussed three-hour runtime was no joke, but almost every minute of it is used well, barring some extended gag scenes that probably could have been left for the Blu-ray. Fans genuinely did not feel bad for long playback instead they want more. Endgame manages to tie the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe up with a beautiful, emotional, gut-wrenching, hopeful conclusion, which is a definite masterpiece.
An added $165 million worldwide, Avengers: Endgame is now just $302 million (Rs 2000 crore) behind Avatar, that doesn’t look much for the movie like Avengers: Endgame but after sloping down the speed, afraid it could really be able to touch Avatar whose worldwide total stands at $2.7 billion. Endgame registered a higher than expected drop at the US box office. Its 57% drop in the third weekend is higher than Captain America: Civil War (54%) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (50%), according to the reports of Forbes, and Avengers: Infinity War (45%). It is now the third highest trading film of all time domestically, hunting Star Wars: The Force Awakens (whose $900 million-plus record it will not obscure) and Avatar is only $37 million advanced.
Forbes prognosticates that the film will conclude its domestic run with around $850 million, even if it continues dropping on the higher side of expectations. Unadjusted for buildup, however, the film is at the number 24 spot in the US.
A few days back, Cameron had congratulated via Instagram to Marvel Studios and producer Kevin Feige after Endgame eclipsed the box office record of Titanic, which was the world’s highest grossing film of all time until it was caught by his own Avatar.
Avengers: Endgame has not just outperformed every Hollywood movie including ‘The Jungle Book’ which had made USD 38.8 million in its entire theatrical run in the country, but also breaking box office myths for desi filmmakers. Avengers: Endgame has grossed more than Rs 400 crore in India which made it the biggest Hollywood films of all time, and the biggest film of the year so far including Bollywood. India is an emerging good market for Hollywood imports.
The film directed by Joe & Anthony Russo served as a summing-up to Marvel’s 22-film-long Infinity Saga of films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest grossing film franchise of all time, with global box office receipts surpassing $20 billion. The MCU also includes comic books, short films, Tv-series, and digital series on Netflix.
