If one owes money from you & If you have no contract, there is not much you can do legally. We all have that friend who owes us money but never ever utters a word about repaying it back, even if you keep reminding him time and again. And as time passes by, chances are slim that you will ever get your money back. And at a certain period of time, you learn to never loan your money.
However, not everyone forgets who helped them in their lows in life. In a heart-warming development, an active politician from Africa came back to India after 30 years just to repay a debt of Rs. 200.
Richard Tong’i, MP from the Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kenya, came back to India with wife Michelle after 23 years to meet his old benefactor and repay him the money. Septuagenarian Kashinath Gawli is the lucky one who found a friend like Richard.
The report of India Today – Richard was a student of management studies at a local college in Aurangabad during 1985-89. When he left for his homeland, he had an outstanding debt of Rs 200 with Gawli, who then ran a grocery shop in the Wankhedenagar locality where Richard stayed.
Richard says, “As a student in Aurangabad, I was at my lowest point when these people (Gawlis) helped me. Then I thought that someday, I will come back and (re)pay. I want to say thank you. This is so emotional for me.”
He added further, “God bless the old man (Gawli) and his children. They were wonderful to me. They wanted to take me to a hotel for a meal but I insisted that we should eat at their house.”
People were surprised by his modesty & why not!
Often it happens that you do a favor for a friend and when the time comes he forgets about that favor.
