At least six people were killed Tuesday afternoon during the shooting in Jersey City New Jersey according to Mayor Steven Fulop.
Steven Fulop said one police officer was killed and three others were injured. Law enforcement says two suspects are also included among those dead.
There is an exchange of gunfire for more than an hour in the Greenville neighborhood.
The bus and rail service was suspended and 12 schools were put on lockdown while officers responded to the scene.
Andy Patel operates a liquor store about three blocks away from the locality of the shooting site and said there had been regular gunfire fire about an hour on Tuesday afternoon.
“I can hear the gunshots. It’s like firecrackers going off. They were shooting like crazy about an hour ago. Then it stopped for like 20 or 30 minutes. The cops were clearing everyone off the streets,” Patel stated.
Mayor Phillips said all the students were safe and accounted for and the lockdown was later lifted.
Officials say there was no indication of terrorism
