The largest cyclone in 20 years was hit a few days. But the impact of Fani cyclone and damages are still can be seen in the states. The Odisha Housing and Urban Development Department said on Tuesday that Cyclone that hit the coastal state on May 3 destroyed Rs. 525 crore worth of assets.
“Fifty-three urban local bodies have been critically affected. 291 km of drains, 750 km of roads, 267 culverts have been damaged. Other foundations like parks, playgrounds, community centers, town halls, and others have been badly affected,” said G Mathivathanan, Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, speaking to a press gathering Bhubaneswar.
The official calculated that water supply was badly affected in 20 towns due to the cyclonic storm while 21,000 street lights were affected too.
Unfortunately, there were death tolls, but due to action and efforts taken before hitting the cyclone to coastal areas, the number of deaths in Odisha reached 64 with Puri recording the maximum number of deaths at 39, according to official calculations released by the Odisha government on Saturday.
