DC Superheroes are doing well on the Box office, since wonder woman and Aquaman, and “Shazam!” – DC Studios has released three popular and critically acclaimed superhero flicks in two years. Taking the number one spot this week and beating box office expectations along the way is Shazam. Bringing in an estimated 53 million dollars domestic bows over the weekend in the US. According to hollywoodreporter.com, a sequel is officially in the works.
Fans are already excited for the second chapter of “Shazam!”. Warner Bros studios have reportedly tapped “Shazam!” writer Henry Gayden to write the sequel for latest DC superhero in the New Line.
Director David F. Sandberg and producer Peter Safran are expected to work together.
The DC film set up plenty of fodder for potential sequels, with surprise cameos setting the stage for more heroes in the universe and a mid-credits scene teasing a mysterious villain. Dwayne Johnson is also to be cast in his own solo movie as the classic Shazam villain Black Adam.
“Shazam!” also starring Jack Dylan Grazer, Michelle Borth and Djimon Hounsou, centers on teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who can change into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi), and who faces off versus the villainous Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) with the help of his foster brother.
With “Shazam!” minting USD 160.2 million worldwide, the studio has secured a third consecutive hit, after “Wonder Woman” (2017) and “Aquaman” (2018).
